On Wednesday 4 April, SV's Sophie attended a briefing session for #TeamSFH - the group of runners taking part in this year's London Marathon for Saint Francis Hospice.
Sophie, along with sports psychologist Andy, nutritionist David and personal trainer Tom, met with the SFH runners one final time ahead of their big race on 22 April.
There was a great turnout.
The four experts shared information with the runners and then opened the floor for an informal Q&A session.
Sophie offered advice on:
last minute niggling injuries and what to do
optimal recovery over the next two weeks, ready for race day
sports taping/ kinesio taping
tapering ready for race day
how being selfish during the race is a positive - it's your time to shine, your time to enjoy all the hard work that you have put in over the last 5+ months
The importance of being organised leading up to the day and on race day itself
Some of the runners were experiencing plantar fascia pain (pain on the underneath part of the foot). Sophie demonstrated some exercises to help relieve this and discussed footwear leading up to the race.
On race day, Sophie will be standing and cheering in her normal spot at mile 25, with her purple balloons and banners.
Bring it on!
