Are you feeling SAD?

Seasonal Affective Disorder is a recognised medical condition and affects around 1 in 20 people in the UK, it can really impact day to day life. It is a type of depression that is triggered by seasons throughout the year, affecting different people in different ways.

It is important to let people around you know how you are feeling, so they are aware of SAD and the way it can affect your mood.

It can make you feel like your body is entering a type of hibernation. Symptoms can include extreme tiredness, feeling rage or anger, eating more, struggling to wake up in the morning and get motivated.

Here are some things that can help:

  • Natural sunlight indoors and out! Another option is to take some vitamin D tablets/ spray

  • (check with your GP first). You can also try a specialist lightbox, this can feed the chemicals in your brain the hormones you are missing.

  • Practice mindfullness

  • Listen to your favourite music or a funny or motivating podcast

  • Exercise - Even if you don't feel like going out, there are so many online options - yoga is great for depression.

  • Healthy diet - So many foods are proven to make you feel better especially fruit and veg.

  • Bring the outside in with plants and flowers, just that little burst of colour or smell can help to lift your mood.

  • Massage is a great way of improving circulation, relieving tension and knots, boosting your immune system and making you feel more relaxed.
