We are super thrilled to have Derval on board, he is really passionate about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, physically and mentally.
See below for some helpful tips he has shared, to improve your mental health by being active:
Make time for exercise. Make it a priority in your life. Sometimes it can be hard to plan but putting that time aside will greatly benefit you in the long run.
Look for social activities. Find people to exercise with whether that's 5-a-side football or a run club. Socialising is good for mental health and always makes activity more fun.
Set small goals. If you're looking to get back into exercise, start slowly and set achievable goals. Exercise releases endorphins, so as you start exercising the more you'll want to keep going.
When life gets tough, try not to shy away from activity. Sometimes you'll want to skip a session and stay inside because you're having a difficult time. Getting up is the hardest part but after exercising you'll never regret it.
Most importantly, find something you enjoy. Whether thats a sport you did in childhood that you want to do again or a new sport you want to try. If you enjoy it, you'll stick to it.
Derval graduated from The University of East London with a First Class BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy degree and is currently studying for an MSc in Physiotherapy at Brunel University of London.
