Tyler graduated from the University of East London in 2021 with a BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy Degree. He then progressed to complete a Masters MSc Degree in Sports Science & Performance Coaching at Solent University in 2022.

His passion for Sports Therapy began through his own experience as a Basketball player, having competed since the age of 11 and still competing at the semi-professional level. He has been passionate about sports science from a young age and this fuelled his interest in injury rehabilitation and optimising athletic performance.

Tyler has worked with professional teams, including the London Lions in 2020 and Fulham FC in 2015. During his time at the clubs, Tyler was responsible for the soft tissue treatment and management of players, first aid and assisting with injury protocols. Tyler notably helped the Lions athletes during their 2020/21 campaign in the Basketball Champions League, which is an international European competition and was Lions’ 1st time participating in club history.

Alongside his experience in professional sports, Tyler has worked within the NHS for the past 2 years as a Musculoskeletal physiotherapy assistant, where he has provided gym-based rehabilitation for a range of injuries. His main responsibilities were to provide 1:1 rehab sessions for patients from referring Physios and the assisting and running of injury specific classes. These included, Early Phase ACL Rehabilitation Class, Knee Osteoarthritis Circuit Class and the Hand & Wrist Class which was dedicated to patients with surgical and non-surgical wrist injuries.

With a strong background in soft tissue therapy, injury prevention, and rehabilitation, Tyler is committed to helping individuals recover, perform at their best, and stay injury-free. He takes a holistic approach to treatment, ensuring not just recovery, but long-term well-being and enhanced performance.

Q&A with Tyler

What is the best thing about being a Sports Therapist?

Being able to build a bond with clients and help them solve their injuries.

What sports are you interested in?

Basketball, Football, F1 & American Football

What is your favourite muscle and why?

I would say the gastrocnemius and soleus (AKA The Calf). I'm a little biased as I've had two major injuries that heavily involve the calf strength, but the calf is considered to be the 2nd heart of the body as it drives a lot of the circulation for our lower body. Without strong calves, we wouldn't be able to propel (push) ourselves forward when we walk or run. They also allow us to jump, rotate our ankles, flex our feet and “lock” our knees.

What is your favourite joint and why?

Probably the knee joint because it's crucial for movement and is essential for activities like walking, running, jumping, sitting, and squatting - basically any movement that involves the lower body; it also plays a vital role in supporting body weight and absorbing shock during movement.

What is your favourite stretch for the body?

I really like the side lying book opener. Really good for stretching and opening up the mid and lower back whilst stretching some of shoulder as well.

Who is your favourite sportsperson at the moment and why?

Who is your favourite sportsperson at the moment and why?

Isaiah Thomas - He's a professional basketball player in the NBA. He's a two-time NBA All-Star and named second-team All NBA. He's one of the shortest people to play in the NBA at 5'8 and has accomplished many things at that height, which motivated me a lot in my basketball career.

What are your sporting goals?

  • Win a National League Championship within Division 2

  • Play for one of my native heritage national teams for basketball (Either Jamaica, Barbados or Montserrat)

  • Be able to dunk again (Or attempt to)
